Nokia 8 Sirocco; a new variant of Nokia 8 said to be on the way
HMD Global may launch the Nokia 8 Sirocco smartphone at MWC 2018.
HMD Global is all set to launch a number of new Nokia smartphones on February 25, just ahead of MWC 2018. Going by existing rumors, the company will unveil the flagship Nokia 9, Android Oreo (Go Edition) based Nokia 1. Apart from that, we expect the global launch of Nokia 6 (2018) which is already official in China. Now, a report published by a Dutch website Mobielkopen has revealed an interesting piece of information.
According to the report, a 2018 version of last year's Nokia 8 is in the works and it will be called Nokia 8 Sirocco. The website claims to have obtained this information from several sources. Earlier this month, folks at the NokiaMob discovered the 'Nokia 8 Sirocco' logo inside the updated camera app (version 8.0230.50) of Nokia 5, which was running Android 8.0 Oreo beta at that time.
This finding gave birth to the rumors that HMD Global maybe planning to launch a new variant of the Nokia 8. Furthermore, the name has surfaced on the mobile certification site of Thailand. In the database, the alleged Nokia 8 Sirocco is associated with the model number TA-1005. While initially it was thought to be the Nokia 9, it doesn't seem to the case.
If you recall, the Nokia TA-1005 got certified by the FCC in December last year. The FCC documents disclosed that the smartphone bears the codename Avatar, and it could be the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Some key specs of the smartphone came to light as well.
On the specs angle, the Nokia TA-1005 features a 5.5-inch OLED display. Under the hood, the handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor teamed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space.
In terms of optics, the smartphone seems to be equipped with a rear dual camera setup comprising of a 13MP sensor and a 12MP sensor. Up front, there lies a 5MP selfie snapper. In addition to all these, a 3,250mAh battery is said to be inside the device for keeping the lights on.
It goes without saying, all these speculations are based on assumptions as HMD has not given any hints about its upcoming Nokia phones. Hopefully, we will get our answers at MWC, which will take place later this month.
