Nothing OS 4.0-Based Android 16 Update Launching Soon With New Features For Nothing Phone 3 Users
Nothing initially hinted at the release of its new operating system (OS) update during the launch of its current flagship, the Nothing Phone 3, in July. Following this, a post on the Nothing Community revealed that the first Closed Beta of Nothing OS 4.0 had begun rolling out to the Nothing Phone 3 (Review). Recently, the company announced that the first stable version of this upcoming OS will be launched soon, with a subsequent rollout.
The UK-based smartphone manufacturer shared on X (formerly Twitter) that it plans to release the stable version of Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 to Nothing Phone models shortly. Additionally, Carl Pei's tech firm teased the user interface design for its forthcoming update, showcasing redesigned icons in a video.

Upcoming Features and Design Changes
The anticipated Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 update will introduce a circular torch icon featuring a red torchlight. Other elements like the Bluetooth switch, dark mode toggle, rumoured temperature monitor widget, and brightness adjustment widget will also adopt circular icons.
New features may be introduced as well, with an unspecified icon displaying an umbrella image and a wheel-like object shown with circular icons. The to-do list might receive a new widget with a square icon and a new pill-shaped switch in the Nothing OS 4.0 update.
Launch Timeline and User Feedback
During the launch of the latest Nothing Phone 3 model, CEO Carl Pei confirmed that Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16, would begin rolling out to devices in Autumn 2025. This announcement follows weeks after the tech firm started distributing the first Closed Beta of Nothing OS 4.0 to select users of the Nothing Phone 3.
This beta version allowed users to test and provide feedback on upcoming features while identifying bugs and issues. The aim is to resolve most problems before making the update available to everyone.
The company has also revealed details about its upcoming product launch: "Nothing Ear 3 Launch Date Revealed: Here's What It Will Look Like." Additionally, amidst allegations regarding fake camera samples from Phone 3, co-founder Carl Pei responded publicly.
