Nothing Phone (2) will feature Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, confirms CEO Carl Pei
The Nothing Phone (2) is set to make its global debut in the coming months, between July and August 2023. While Nothing has been gradually teasing details about its second smartphone, rumours about the Phone (2) have been few and far between.
And now, Nothing CEO Carl Pei has confirmed one of those rumours. In a tweet, Pei noted that the Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The tweet also puts to rest the debate about the Nothing Phone (2)'s positioning, confirming that it will indeed debut as premium smartphone.
Why the Qualcomm Snapdragon+ Gen 1 SoC?
We previously learnt from Pei that the Phone (2) would feature a Snapdragon 8 series chip, but it is now official that the chip used will be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. It is worth noting that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip will likely be around a year old at the time of the Nothing Phone 2's launch.
There has been a lot of discussion ever since we announced that Phone (2) will have a Snapdragon 8 Series chipset. Well here's some news - it’s going to be the premium-tier powerhouse Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. A clear upgrade from Phone (1). Let’s talk about the key differences👇 pic.twitter.com/l5NwCxDAVa

However, Pei is confident that even with the addition of the older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, the Phone (2) will offer a "significantly improved experience compared to Phone (1)." Pei also noted that sometimes the "latest technology comes at a cost which isn't always justified from a user benefit standpoint."
Pei also confirmed that the Phone (2) would offer an impressive 80% overall performance improvement over the Phone (1). He tweeted that the Snapdragon 8 series chip brings significant improvements across the board over the 7 series. "It's not just about speed - it's about the complete package."
Nothing Phone (2) Specifications (Expected)
Apart from the chipset, the Phone (2) will use LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Moreover, it will sport a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone could also pack a 5,000 mAh battery with both wired and wireless fast charging support.
For optics, the Nothing Phone (2) is touted to feature a 50 MP triple-camera setup on the back with OIS support on the main sensor. The Phone (2) will run Android 13 with the NothingOS 1.5 skin on top. You can also expect the device to feature the LED Glyph interface and a dual stereo speaker system.
