Nubia teases a truly bezel-less smartphone ahead of launch
Nubia seems to be working on a Z17S smartphone with a truly bezel-less screen.
Nubia seems to be gearing up to launch a new bezel-less smartphone. The company is poised to push the limits of full-screen designs. At least that's what the teaser says. According to an image shared by Nubia's co-founder Ni Fei via Weibo, the smartphone will launch at an event called Full Screen 3.0.
The teaser image shows a truly bezel-less smartphone. But sadly, no exact date or specifications have been mentioned. Nubia's Ni Fei also mentions that a truly bezel-less smartphone should have a 100 percent screen-to-body ratio. Nubia Z17S showcased at MWC 2018 had an impressive 90.36 percent ratio. Though 90.36 percent is impressive, it won't be enough for the upcoming model.
There isn't much known about the smartphone, but it will be interesting to see how the company places the front-facing camera and the earpiece. The fingerprint sensor placement will also be in question. It might be on the rear panel on under the display.
Hardware specifications of the smartphone remain unknown. But seeing how the upcoming model is somewhat an iteration of the Nubia Z17S, it will likely adopt a bezel-less screen.
As for the Nubia Z17S, the smartphone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with 6GB/8GB RAM. It packs a 5.73-inch display with 2040 x 1080 pixel resolution. It has a 5MP front-facing snapper, while a dual camera comprising 23MP and 12MP shooter.
Besides, Nubia recently showcased its Red Magic gaming smartphone, going in direct competition with the Razer Phone and Xiaomi's Black Shark smartphone. Now the reports are pouring in saying that the first sale of the Red Magic phone only lasted 37 seconds. The smartphone was announced in mid-April and is company's first attempt to cater mobile gamers.
The first flash sale offered 10,000 units and was sold exclusively through the e-commerce platform JD.com. The promotion also included Nubia's Z17S flagship launched in 2017 and the latest Z18 Mini mid-range device announced earlier this month.
Nubia tried several prototypes before going ahead with a flashy LED stripe on the rear panel. The top-end variant of the device comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage, while the base model has 64GB storage and 6GB of RAM.
