OnePlus and OPPO Ink Deal With Google to Get Gemini Ultra in Their Smartphones
Google has announced a strategic partnership with smartphone giants OnePlus and OPPO to integrate their most powerful AI model, Gemini Ultra, into their devices. This collaboration aims to significantly enhance AI functionalities on OnePlus and OPPO smartphones, potentially putting them ahead of competitors in the AI race.
OnePlus and OPPO recently unveiled a new AI Eraser feature for their smartphones, enabling users to remove objects from photos. The AI Eraser tool relies on the AndesGPT model, a generative AI model developed by OPPO. This AI model requires an internet connection to work. But now, Google's AI smarts thrown into the mix will be an interesting sight.

Leveraging Gemini Ultra for a Superior User Experience Both OnePlus and OPPO, owned by BBK Electronics, will leverage the capabilities of Gemini Ultra to introduce advanced AI features on their smartphones. This positions them to potentially surpass competitors like Samsung and Google Pixel devices, which currently utilize less powerful Gemini Nano and Gemini Pro models.
The announcement, made during Google's Cloud Next event, revealed that these advanced AI features will encompass functionalities like news and audio summary tools, an "AI toolbox," and even the generation of social media content. This integration promises to not only improve user experience but also pave the way for even more innovative applications of AI in mobile technology.
Gemini Ultra is Cloud-Based It's important to note that unlike the Gemini Nano model, which operates directly on the device, Gemini Ultra is cloud-based, requiring an internet connection to function. This reliance on constant connectivity may influence how users interact with these AI features.
Long-Term Vision: Over 100 AI-Generated Content Experiences Looking ahead, OPPO and OnePlus have set ambitious goals for AI-generated content (AIGC). They aim to launch over a hundred AIGC experiences within the next three to five years.
Looking Ahead Both companies have promised to reveal more details later in 2024, so stay tuned for updates.
