OnePlus Open Apex Edition in Crimson Shadow Color to Launch Globally on August 7
OnePlus is launching a new version of its first foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, on August 7th globally. This "Apex Edition" ditches the standard color options for a striking new shade called Crimson Shadow.
Introducing the Crimson Shadow Colorway
The OnePlus Open Apex Edition will feature a new color called Crimson Shadow, a vegan leather finish inspired by OnePlus's signature "Never Settle" red. This new shade is expected to join the existing color options of Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black.

Homage to Hasselblad
The Crimson Shadow colorway and the overall design of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition pay homage to the iconic Hasselblad 503CW 60 Years Victor Red Edition. The vegan leather back cover showcases a diamond-like pattern, complemented by vibrant orange accents on the Alert Slider, giving it a premium and timeless look.
Potential Upgrades in RAM and Storage
While the Apex Edition isn't a successor to last year's model, it may offer improvements in terms of RAM and storage. The OnePlus website hints at an additional configuration variant, suggesting that the new edition could come with more RAM and in-built storage, adding to its appeal.
For reference, the standard OnePlus Open (review) launched with a single configuration: 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
OnePlus Open Specifications
The OnePlus Open features a 7.82-inch 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED primary display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and up to 2,800 nits of peak brightness. The external display is a 6.31-inch 2K LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED, matching the refresh rate and brightness of the primary screen.
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and an Adreno 740 GPU, the device is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The OnePlus Open runs on OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13.
Camera and Battery
In terms of optics, the OnePlus Open sports a Hasselblad-branded triple camera setup. This includes a 48-megapixel Sony LYT-T808 primary camera with optical and electronic image stabilization, a 64-megapixel 3X telephoto camera with an OmniVision OV64B sensor, and a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultra-wide-angle camera. For selfies, it features a 20-megapixel front camera on the primary display and a 32-megapixel selfie shooter on the cover display.
The handset is equipped with a dual-cell 4,800mAh battery that supports 67W SuperVOOC charging via USB Type-C.
