OnePlus Pro Line Comes to an End, No 11 Pro or 11T to Be Released

OnePlus Axes Its Pro Lineup of Smartphones

Smartphone manufacturers experiment with the "Pro" moniker to justify a higher-end model. These top-end models typically include some upgrades such as higher resolution, more storage, better build quality, or more features at a higher price. However, OnePlus has made the bold decision to discontinue its "Pro" smartphone lineup this year. This means that the Chinese company will not release the OnePlus 11 Pro or OnePlus 11T in the future.

OnePlus Is Streamlining Its Flagship Portfolio

OnePlus confirmed to Android Authority that it will not be launching a OnePlus 11 Pro in 2023. The company added that the OnePlus 11T will also not make the cut in the second half of the year.

The company wants to "streamline its flagship portfolio," so it is discontinuing the T series of phones. Previously, a "T" series device would be released in the second half of the year, bringing mostly chip upgrades and a few new features and improvements to the "non-T" model.

It's unclear whether OnePlus intends to launch a new series of flagship smartphones distinct from the "T" series, but only time will tell.

OnePlus 11 Is Already "Pro" in OnePlus' Eyes

The company provided an intriguing reason for the cancellation of the OnePlus 11. To begin with, the "Pro" lineup is being phased out permanently, and the company will gradually restructure its flagship offerings globally, beginning in 2023. OnePlus believes that a "Pro" name for a device that is already "Pro" is unnecessary.

So, the OnePlus 11 is considered a "Pro" device by the company in every sense of the word. For a product that lacks some "Pro" features like a full IP68 rating and wireless charging, this is a bold boast. Such premium features can be found even on non-pro devices such as the Pixel 7, iPhone 14, and Samsung Galaxy S23. The Nothing Phone 1 also features wireless charging, and it's priced at a quarter of what OnePlus' current flagship costs.

OnePlus hinted at its foldable devices at its recent Cloud 11 event. It's possible that these devices will take the place of the company's discontinued "Pro" or "T" series.
