OnePlus Slips Up: Announces Correction to the OnePlus 12R’s Specifications
OnePlus recently clarified a significant detail regarding the storage technology used in their 12R models, following a flurry of debates among tech enthusiasts on platforms like Reddit and X. Initially, at the launch event, OnePlus announced that the 256GB version of the OnePlus 12R would feature UFS 4.0 storage technology.
This specification was also mentioned on their official website, setting expectations for a leap in storage speed and efficiency. However, after discussions within the tech community questioning this specification, OnePlus officially confirmed that both the 128GB and 256GB versions of the OnePlus 12R are equipped with UFS 3.1 storage, not UFS 4.0 as previously stated.

OnePlus's Apology and Assurance
In response to the oversight, OnePlus extended an apology for the confusion and misinformation. The company promptly corrected the information on their website, now accurately reflecting the UFS 3.1 storage specification for the OnePlus 12R models.
Despite this hiccup, OnePlus reassures users that the OnePlus 12R, along with its Trinity Engine features, will still deliver exceptional performance. This includes faster app launching and the capability to keep applications running smoothly for extended periods.
OnePlus has emphasized that the device was fully tested with UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring that it will remain fast and efficient for up to 48 months, as certified by TUV SUD. Check out our first impressions of the OnePlus 12R right here.
What did OnePlus's President have to Say?
In a statement, Kinder Liu, OnePlus President, and COO, said: I'm excited that so many of you are now starting to receive your OnePlus 12 Series devices and experience for yourself all their amazing new features. I'm writing today to let you know that we have made a mistake in our communications for OnePlus 12R and to explain what happens next.

He also added, "During the launch of the OnePlus 12R, we announced Trinity Engine, a new set of software algorithms that help keep your phone's memory and storage running fast and smooth for years to come. Due to an error, we stated that the storage enhanced by Trinity Engine would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1."
