Oppo A83 with 18:9 display, Face Unlock launched in India for Rs. 13,990
One of the main highlights of the Oppo A83 is its full-screen design with minimal bezels around the display.
As expected, Oppo today announced the launch of a new smartphone in India. Dubbed as Oppo A83, it was making the headlines over the past few weeks. Since the smartphone was first introduced in December in China, we already knew what it would bring to the table. The major highlights of the Oppo A83 are its full-screen design with an 18:9 display and the Face Unlock feature. Oppo claims that its face recognition can be as fast as 0.18 seconds.
What's more interesting is that Oppo A83 doesn't feature a fingerprint scanner. When it comes to full-screen smartphones, manufacturers usually move the fingerprint scanner to the rear panel due to the lack of space at the front. However, this doesn't seem to be the case with Oppo's new offering. The company has ditched the fingerprint scanner in favor of the Face Unlock feature that can unlock the device using facial recognition feature.
Moving forward, below are the detailed specs, pricing and availability of the Oppo A83.
Design and Display
As stated earlier, the Oppo A83 comes with a full-screen design with minimal bezels around the display. The side bezels are almost non-existent, and the top and bottom bezels are also really narrow. Keeping up with the current trend, the smartphone's display features an aspect ratio of 18:9. All in all, it looks quite sleek and stylish.
The Oppo A83 is fitted with a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display that delivers a Full HD+ resolution of 1,440×720 pixels. In addition, the display supports multi-touch functionality.
The handset measures 150.5×73.1×7.7 mm and weighs about 143 grams.
Under the hood
The Oppo A83 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 processor that is clocked at 2.5GHz. The chipset is teamed up with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.
To keep the lights on, the smartphone packs a decent 3,180mAh battery inside.
Cameras
In terms of optics, the Oppo A83 is equipped with a 13MP rear-facing primary camera with LED flash, Auto Focus, and 720p recording capabilities. Up front, there is an 8MP camera for shooting selfies and video calls. The front camera also comes with facial recognition feature.
Software and Connectivity
On the software front, the Oppo A83 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Oppo's own ColorOS 3.2 on top. Being a budget smartphone, it does not come with Android Oreo.[Select files]
The smartphone offers standard connectivity features such as 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C, GPS, GLONASS and dual-SIM support. While sensors onboard include Ambient light, distance and Gravity sensors.
Pricing and Availability
The Oppo A83 carries a price tag of Rs. 13,990 in India. The smartphone will go on sale from January 20.
Reliance Jio users will get up to 100GB 4G data on the purchase of the smartphone.
Oppo A83 rivals
Since the Oppo A83 is priced at just Rs. 13,990, it will have to compete against phones like Xiaomi Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus, Honor 7X, among others. However, it is the first phone in this price-range to feature Face Unlock.
