OPPO and OnePlus Could Introduce the Biggest Ever Battery on a Flagship This Year
Oppo and OnePlus are reportedly developing a new battery with a substantial 8,000mAh capacity. This information comes from a tipster on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging platform. The battery is expected to support 80W SuperVOOC charging, similar to the current flagship models from these companies. Chinese smartphone manufacturers are advancing rapidly with Silicon Carbon (Si/C) battery technology, aiming for further enhancements in future devices.
The Ouga Lab, which combines research and development teams from Oppo and OnePlus, is currently testing this innovative silicon-carbon battery. According to Digital Chat Station's post, this new battery boasts an 8,000mAh capacity and can be charged at approximately 80W. This development signifies a significant leap in battery technology for these brands.

Silicon Content Increase in New Battery
When OnePlus introduced the Ace 3 Pro last year, it highlighted that its Si/C battery had the highest silicon content at that time-6 percent. The new battery being tested by Ouga Lab reportedly increases this silicon content to 15 percent. This enhancement could lead to improved performance and efficiency in future devices.
It remains uncertain whether the 8,000mAh battery will be featured in upcoming Oppo and OnePlus smartphones. If adopted, it might debut in future flagship models such as successors to the OnePlus 13 or Oppo Find X8 series. These potential upgrades could offer consumers longer-lasting power and faster charging capabilities.
Comparisons with Other Brands
Last December, reports indicated that Xiaomi and OnePlus were working on smartphones with 7,000mAh batteries slated for a 2025 release. Currently, the flagship Xiaomi 15 Pro and OnePlus 13 models have batteries of 6,100mAh and 6,000mAh respectively.
These developments reflect a trend among Chinese smartphone makers to enhance battery capacities significantly. The Chinese versions of Realme GT 7 Pro and iQOO 13 feature batteries of 6,500mAh and 6,100mAh respectively. The shift towards silicon-carbon batteries offers numerous advantages over traditional lithium-ion (Li-ion) counterparts.
These benefits include increased energy density and potentially longer lifespan. The advancements in Si/C battery technology by Oppo and OnePlus highlight their commitment to innovation in smartphone power solutions.
