Oppo opens new research institute for 5G and AI

With an aim to boost capabilities in technological innovation, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has recently announced the launch of OPPO Research Institute in China.

OPPO Research Institute has also announced a partnership with Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, establishing to explore Artificial Intelligence front-end technologies and application. Aside from AI, the smartphone maker is cooperating on 5G with New York University, Beijing Technology University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) Standards Research Institute.

 

Tony Chen, an OPPO CEO, said: "OPPO Research Institute is the new investment for our future beyond the existing R&D system. The company said that "OPPO is continually improving its overall R&D capabilities. With technologies such as VOOC flash charge and AI smart photography, OPPO is now at the global forefront of fast charging, photography, and other core mobile technology. In the future, with "users' needs" and "key technologies" as driving forces, OPPO Research Institute will help to further realize advanced innovation and transform small breakthroughs to profound new developments in mobile technology."

In India, OPPO has been continuously appreciated for its technologically advanced products specifically the front camera capabilities. OPPO's A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology in it's recently launched offerings - OPPO F7 and OPPO A83 bring a more realistic and natural selfie experience to more young consumers.

Furthermore, the company claims the AI captures more than 200 facial points when a photo is taken, and this allows it to refine features and compose the face contour with precision; making a face appear three-dimensional as if the photographer has shot from different angles and capture a 3D image of the face.
