Oppo is launching its newest smartphone lineup, the Oppo Reno 12 series, in a global event today, June 18, 2024 at 5 PM CET (8:30 PM IST). The series consists of two models, the Oppo Reno 12 and Oppo Reno 12 Pro, which were previously introduced in China last month.

AI Takes The Spotlight

OPPO Reno 12 & 12 Pro Launching Today Globally
  • AI Portrait: This suggests improved photo quality, possibly through AI-powered background blurring, facial enhancements, or object recognition for optimized settings.
  • AI LinkBoost: This hints at AI-assisted network management for a more stable and efficient internet connection.

These features showcase Oppo's commitment to leveraging AI for an enhanced user experience.

Expected Hardware Specifications

The global variants of the Oppo Reno 12 series are expected to pack the following:

Display: Both phones will likely sport a large 6.7-inch curved OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate for a responsive user experience. Additionally, the display is expected to boast a sharp 1.5K resolution and be protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for increased durability.

Processor: The standard Reno 12 is expected to come equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 8250 Star Speed Edition processor, while the Pro variant is rumored to sport the even more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ Star Speed Edition chipset. These processors promise strong performance for everyday tasks and even mobile gaming.

Memory and Storage: Both phones are expected to offer up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM for fast multitasking and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage for ample space for apps, games, and media files.

Cameras: The camera department is expected to be a highlight, with a triple-camera system on the back featuring a high-resolution 50MP main sensor. The Pro variant might even boast an upgraded Sony IMX890 sensor for even better image quality. Accompanying the main sensor will likely be a 50MP telephoto lens for zoomed-in shots and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor for capturing expansive scenes. The front-facing camera is also expected to be a powerful 50MP sensor for high-quality selfies and video calls.

Battery: Keeping the phones powered all day is likely to be a 5,000mAh battery with support for Oppo's fast-charging technology, 80W SuperVOOC.

Other Features: Both phones are expected to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking and an IP65 dust and water resistance rating for added peace of mind.

Pricing and Availability

Global pricing and availability for the Oppo Reno 12 series haven't been officially announced yet. However, during the China launch, the starting price for the Reno 12 was CNY 2,699 (roughly Rs. 31,000). Pre-orders are already underway in Malaysia, so a wider global rollout shouldn't be far behind.

However, as per leaks, the base model, with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, is anticipated to cost €457.83 (about ₹41,200). The Reno 12 Pro, presumably with the same configuration, is expected to be priced at €549.40 (approximately ₹49,325.77).
