OxygenOS 5.0 OTA update for OnePlus 5 canceled
OnePlus has said that it is working on OxygenOS 5.0.1 and will roll out a partial release of that update to the OnePlus 5.
OnePlus has been on a roll since the past couple of weeks. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has sent updates to four of its devices including the OnePlus 5T, 5, 3 and 3T. Last week, OnePlus 5 started receiving an OTA update for OxygenOS 5.0.
Based on Android 8.0 Oreo, the update brought all the features of Android Oreo to OnePlus 5, and also the cool features of OxygenOS 5.0 such as parallel apps. In addition, the update included the Android security patch for December. Other features that came with the update are a new camera UI, a new beauty effect for Portrait Mode and enhanced optimizations for Wi-Fi and BatterySaver.
Since it was an OTA update, initially only a small number of OnePlus 5 users received it. However, if you have not received the OxygenOS 5.0, it is because the company has stopped rolling out the update.
OnePlus has announced on OnePlus forum that the company has canceled the global rollout of the update due to a bug found on OxygenOS 5.0. The news may come as a disappoint to many fans as the update was supposed to add Android Oreo to the OnePlus 5.
On a positive note, OnePlus has said that it is working on OxygenOS 5.0.1 and will roll out a partial release of that update to the OnePlus 5. We hope that the upcoming update will run smoothly without any glitches.
Meanwhile, OnePlus has recently rolled out the OxygenOS Beta 3 to OnePlus 5. As you may have guessed it already, the update brings the much-awaited Face Unlock feature. Other than that, the update made some optimizations for vibrations, fixed connection issues of 5G Wi-Fi and added app shortcut on Launcher.
What's more, the OxygenOS Beta 3 for OnePlus 5 also made some usual bug fixes and improvements and updated Android security patch for December.
It should be kept in mind that OnePlus 5 users who are enrolled in the OxygenOS beta program should receive the update via OTA (over the air). While those who are out of the program are required to manually flash the ROM. The latest OxygenOS Beta 3 weighs in at just 106MB, being a rather small update.
