Panasonic has announced the launch of a new budget smartphone in the P series. This new device dubbed Panasonic P101 comes fitted with an 18:9 display. The company calls this to be 'Big View' display and it is the second such smartphone from the stable of Panasonic. This smartphone is priced at Rs. 6,999 and will be available via the offline retailer Sangeetha Mobiles.
Panasonic P101 Specifications
Panasonic P101 flaunts a 5.45-inch Big View IPS display with 2.5D curved glass. Under its hood, the smartphone makes use of a quad-core MediaTek MT6739WA SoC clocked at 1.3GHz. This processor is teamed up with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
On the imaging front, the Panasonic P101 sports an 8MP rear camera at its rear with autofocus and LED flash. Up front, there is a 5MP selfie camera also with a dedicated LED flash to help in clicking low-light selfie shots.
The connectivity aspects on board the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS and FM radio. There is a slew of sensors such as accelerometer, compass, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. A 2500mAh battery power the smartphone from within rendering a decent backup to the budget handset.
A few days back, Panasonic announced the launch of the Eluga Ray 550 smartphone for Rs. 8,999. This is the first Panasonic smartphone to feature an 18:9 Big View display. Also, the Eluga Ray 700 smartphone received the Face Unlock feature.
As mentioned above, the Panasonic P101 has been launched at a price point of Rs. 6,999. This smartphone comes with bundled launch offers making it attractive. Going by the same, there is a cash back offer of Rs. 2,000 for the Idea subscribers. This takes the effective pricing of the smartphone to Rs. 4,999.
In addition to the cashback offer, there is a data offer too from Idea Cellular. Both the existing and new Idea subscribers can get additional 60GB of data on purchasing the new Panasonic P101 smartphone. To avail the data benefit, users have to do the Rs. 199 recharge, which will give 10GB additional data for 28 days. This offer can be availed for six months.
The Panasonic P101 has all the necessary features seen in budget smartphones. Like the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and Moto C Plus in the similar price point, this one also misses out on a fingerprint sensor. However, we need to see how well this device can compete with the Xiaomi phone, which is a bestseller in the budget market segment.
