No matter how good the Google Pixel and Pixel XL were built, the phones aren't immune to defects. Unfortunately for the search giant, one of those defects has led to a class-action complaint filed against the company.

Pixel and Pixel XL users drag Google to court over microphone defects

Several Pixel users have complained that their phones had a defected microphone right from the beginning. In the complaint, the users alleged that Google sold defective Pixel and Pixel XL units, with some having issues with the warranty of the devices as well. According to Fast Company, the plaintiffs did not replace their units within the respective warranty periods.

Girard Gibbs LLP, the same law firm that was behind a lawsuit against LG over bootloop issues, is behind the Google lawsuit. The law firm might also file a lawsuit over Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL issues.

Google acknowledged the microphone issues back in March 2017 and admitted that one of the three microphones tucked in the Pixel and Pixel XL might a failure-causing physical default.

Google also said there is a possibility that the issues occur due to a hairline crack in the solder on the audio codec. The company also said the problem can occur due to the temperature of the phone or the way it is being held.

"Google designed, manufactured, marketed, and sold the Pixel phones. It promoted the Pixel phones as premium products and priced them from $649 to $869. Yet, immediately after launching the phones, customers complained directly to Google of "severe microphone issues," the plaintiffs, said in a lawsuit. "Instead of fixing the defective Pixel phones, providing refunds, or replacing the devices with non-defective phones, Google has replaced defective phones with other defective phones, resulting in many consumers repeatedly experiencing the microphone defect".

Top 10 Tips & Tricks for Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL

Google has a history of hardware defects. Its current flagship - the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have issues such as 'black smearing' to high pitched clicking noises. Google solved few of these issues through software updates, although the hardware issues remain unfixed.

In response to the complaints, the company extended customers' standard warranties to two years. However, no such courtesy exists for original Pixel owners.
