Planning To Buy The iPhone Duo On Launch Day in India? You May Not Get One In Stores

Apple's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, goes on sale on October 23, but buying one from an Apple Store may not be as straightforward as walking in and picking it up. The company has confirmed that stores will have limited stock for walk-in customers in select markets, while buyers in several countries, including India, will need to reserve a pickup slot online.

You May Not Get the iPhone Duo on Launch Day in India: Here's Why

The limited availability comes after pre-orders opened on October 16 and initial stocks sold out within minutes. Delivery estimates for some customers have since moved to January 2027, although shipping dates have reportedly been brought forward for some people who had already placed their orders.

iPhone Duo Walk-In Sales: What Apple Has Confirmed

Apple has said that it will have limited numbers of the iPhone Duo available for walk-in customers on launch day. The company attributed the situation to extraordinary demand and said it was working to get the phone into customers' hands as quickly as possible.

Walk-in purchases will be possible in the US, Australia, Canada, Mexico and several European markets, including the UK. Apple has also listed Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Türkiye among the markets where limited walk-in stock will be available. Some Apple Stores in Italy will also have units, although Apple has not specified which locations.

Macau will have a different arrangement, with walk-in purchases permitted only on launch day and stock remaining limited.

However, customers in India, mainland China, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the UAE will not be able to buy the iPhone Duo as walk-in customers on launch day. Instead, they will need to reserve a pickup slot through Apple's online store.

iPhone Duo Buyers In India May Need To Check Online

For customers in India, heading to an Apple Store without a reservation may not be an option at all on October 23. Apple's online store has reportedly asked customers to check back on Saturday, October 24, for pickup availability, leaving it unclear whether new pickup reservations will be possible on launch day itself.

Those who placed pre-orders during the initial window are in a different position. According to the reports, initial pre-orders in India are still scheduled to ship on October 23. However, new orders placed through Apple's official website may face delivery estimates extending to late January 2027.

There may be alternatives for buyers who do not want to wait that long. A report by ETV Bharat says retailer Croma is offering shipping from October 29 for the 256GB version of the iPhone Duo, subject to availability. Buyers should check the retailer's current stock and delivery estimate before placing an order.

Why Is The iPhone Duo In Short Supply?

The shortage appears to be linked to strong demand as well as the challenges of manufacturing Apple's first foldable phone at scale. Unlike a conventional iPhone, the Duo uses a folding design with a complex hinge mechanism that requires precise manufacturing.

Earlier reports indicated that final assembly yields were only slightly above 60% in mid-September. Apple's strict quality requirements have reportedly made it harder for manufacturing partners to increase production, with some partners asking the company to relax its standards.

Apple has not publicly attributed the limited walk-in stock to a single manufacturing issue in its statement. However, the combination of strong pre-order demand and reported production challenges could help explain why availability is tight at launch.

Apple has also reportedly capped iPhone Duo purchases at two units per person, a measure intended to help manage demand and curb scalping.

iPhone Duo Specifications And Price

The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch foldable LTPO OLED inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate, alongside a 5.4-inch LTPO OLED cover display that also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by Apple's A20 Pro chipset and comes with 12GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.

For photography, the phone has a 48MP main camera with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. It also includes a 12MP selfie camera on the cover screen and a 4MP under-display camera on the inner screen.

Other reported specifications include a 4,883mAh battery, 25W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, an IP68 rating and iOS 27.1.

Pricing starts at $1,999 in the US, €2,299 in Germany and £1,999 in the UK. Indian pricing and availability should be checked through Apple's official store and authorised retailers.

For anyone hoping to buy the iPhone Duo on launch day, the safest option is to check the online store before visiting a retail outlet. With walk-in sales restricted in India and delivery estimates already extending into the coming months, an unplanned store visit may not be enough to secure the phone.
