Qualcomm Aims to Simplify the Android Update Process for Smartphone Makers: Report
Over the past few years, Android updates have become increasingly significant, with brands like Samsung and Google enhancing their update policies. Samsung's decision to offer up to 7 years of software support for flagship devices has prompted other companies, including Google, to follow suit.
Qualcomm is now working on simplifying the process for other manufacturers, aiming to make it easier for OEMs to deliver Android updates and address challenges posed by older chipsets.

Qualcomm's Efforts to Assist OEMs
In an interview with Android Authority, Chris Patrick, SVP and General Manager of Handsets at Qualcomm, revealed that the company plans to introduce changes to help OEMs update older Android phones.
Delays in Android OS updates often happen because chipset makers like Qualcomm and MediaTek cease supporting older models, limiting some phones' update availability. However, Qualcomm claims it isn't a primary bottleneck. The company has been working with Google and OEMs to "change the structure of inline code - to kind of change the machinery for how we do those updates."
Although Patrick did not provide further details, he hinted that more information would be available "later this year." The report speculates that these announcements could take place at Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit or possibly at IFA.
Streamlined Processes and Extended Support
Qualcomm's updates aim to benefit Android users by streamlining processes. Alongside recent improvements made by Samsung and Google, these changes encourage manufacturers to extend support while aiming for timely updates and reduced costs. Users are increasingly seeking quicker updates and longer support, particularly on Qualcomm-equipped devices.
Addressing a critical ecosystem need, the announcement targets faster Android updates. Chris Patrick stated in his interview with Android Authority: "You'll see later this year that we'll make some announcements about the changes we've made to facilitate this and help the whole ecosystem keep Android phones closer to up-to-date."
In conclusion, Qualcomm's efforts to simplify the Android update process for OEMs are a welcome development in the smartphone industry. By collaborating with Google and other manufacturers, the company aims to ensure timely updates and extended support for a wide range of devices.
