Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Debuts with 40% Faster GPU and On-Device AI for Mid-Range Phones

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, the latest in its 7-series lineup, designed to enhance mid-range smartphones with premium features and on-device AI capabilities.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 succeeds last year's Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and promises significant performance improvements and energy efficiency.

Enhanced Performance and Efficiency

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is built on a 4nm process, offering nearly 20% better CPU performance and a 45% reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessor. The platform features a Qualcomm Adreno GPU that delivers up to 40% improved graphics performance, making it a compelling option for mobile gaming enthusiasts.

This new chipset also brings a 30% boost in AI performance, thanks to the Qualcomm AI Engine. This upgrade allows for advanced on-device AI capabilities, such as supporting Large Language Models (LLMs) like Baichuan-7B and Llama 2 with 1B parameters, directly on the device without relying on cloud services.

Advanced Camera and Display Capabilities

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is equipped with a 12-bit triple Image Signal Processor (ISP) that supports professional-grade camera features. This includes 4K HDR video capture, up to 200MP photo capture, and support for a variety of video formats, including HDR10+ and 10-bit HEIF. The platform also supports a Full HD+ display at 144Hz and an external 4K display at 60Hz, ensuring smooth and vibrant visuals.

Connectivity and Audio Enhancements

Connectivity is another strong point of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which integrates Qualcomm's Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System. This system supports 5G Dual-SIM Dual-Active (DSDA), allowing users to use two 5G SIM cards simultaneously. The platform also includes Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6E, providing fast and reliable wireless connectivity.

For audio, Qualcomm has integrated its Aqstic audio codec and smart speaker amplifier, delivering high-quality sound with minimal distortion. This is complemented by the Qualcomm Audio and Voice Communication Suite, ensuring clear and crisp audio for calls and media playback.

Adoption by Leading Manufacturers

Xiaomi is expected to be the first to adopt the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, with a new device likely launching in September. Rumors suggest this could be part of the Redmi Note 14 Pro series. Other major brands, including Realme, Samsung, and Sharp, have also confirmed their plans to use this chipset in upcoming devices.
