Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 And Gen 6 Pro Specs Leak Ahead Of Launch

Qualcomm’s next flagship chip might not be a single, straightforward upgrade this time.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 And Gen 6 Pro Specs Leaked

A new leak from tipster Digital Chat Station suggests the company could launch two versions of its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor. For now, they’re being referred to as SM8950 and SM8975, and both are said to be in development for a possible September launch.

Two Chips Instead Of One

Normally, Qualcomm releases one main flagship chip each year that powers most premium Android phones. This time, the leak suggests there could be two options.

Both versions are said to use a 2+3+3 CPU setup. In simple terms, that just means the chip has different types of cores handling different tasks. Some cores focus on heavy work like gaming, some handle everyday tasks, and others run in the background to save battery.

So at a basic level, both chips are built similarly. The real differences come in how powerful they are.

What Actually Changes Between Them

The higher-end version, which could be called a “Pro” model, seems to be the SM8975.

It’s tipped to come with an Adreno 850 GPU. The GPU is what handles graphics, so this mainly affects gaming performance and things like animations.

It’s also said to include 18MB GMEM. Think of this as a small, fast memory space used by the GPU to process visuals more efficiently.

On the memory side, it may support LPDDR6 RAM, which is the next generation of smartphone memory. In simple terms, newer RAM means faster data handling and potentially better multitasking. It may also still support the current LPDDR5X standard.

There’s also a mention of LLC cache. This is a small, very fast storage area inside the chip that helps speed up frequently used data. More cache usually means smoother performance.

The standard version, SM8950, looks like a slightly toned-down version of all this.

It’s said to come with an Adreno 845 GPU instead, along with 12MB GMEM, LPDDR5X RAM support, and a smaller 6MB cache.

So it’s not a completely different chip, but it’s clearly positioned a step below.

There’s Another Chip Too

The leak also briefly mentions a separate Snapdragon 8 Gen 6. Details are still unclear, but it’s suggested that it may not be as powerful as the Elite versions.

For now, all of this is based on early information, and Qualcomm hasn’t confirmed anything yet. But if this turns out to be accurate, buying a flagship Android phone next year might involve paying more attention to which version of the chip it’s using.
