Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Coming in October; What to Expect?

Qualcomm is all set to introduce its next-gen flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor in October 2024. Don McGuire, the Chief Marketing Officer at Qualcomm revealed the information during MWC 2024.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Confirmed

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Don McGuire, the CMO at Qualcomm, confirms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset will be announced at the Snapdragon Summit in October 2024. The video further reveals the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will come with Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU along with an improved NPU performance.

The video did not disclose any other details about the upcoming SoC. Earlier a leak (via @faridofanani96) revealed the performance of an engineering sample of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. The chip reportedly ran the game Genshin Impact smoothly for 45 minutes at 1080p resolution, maintaining a 60fps frame rate.

Another report revealed the Adreno 830 GPU of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 10% higher than Apple's M2 chip in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test. We suggest our readers take this with a pinch of salt until the company confirms the same.

The predecessor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was announced last year in October. The chip is 30% faster and 20% more efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 runs the high-end flagship devices like Xiaomi 14 series. Similarly, we are expecting the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will run flagships from brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, and more.

A leak on Weibo revealed the Xiaomi 15 series will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Since the launch is far away, we will get more details regarding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in the coming days.

Qualcomm is also reportedly working on another chip in the Snapdragon 8 Gen series. The SoC is tipped to come with the codename SM8635 and tentative marketing name Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Although, there is no information regarding the launch timeline of the alleged Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.
