|

Qualcomm is likely to announce its next flagship mobile solution -- the Snapdragon 865 at its annual summit on December 3. It looks like the basic parameters of the Snapdragon 865 have been leaked on Weibo, which hints at the possible upgrades over its predecessor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Specs Leaked

Will Be Based on 7nm Fabrication

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 will be manufactured using a 7nm EUV manufacturing process which should offer better efficiency compared to the chipsets based on the 7nm FinFET process.

The chipset will have eight CPU cores with one high-performance core based on Cortex A-77 architecture with a clock speed of 2.84GHz and three mid-performance cores, again based on Cortex A-77 architecture with a clock speed of 2.42GHz. Then, it has four efficient cores based on Cortex A-55 architecture with a clock speed of 1.8GHz. The prime CPU clock speed is similar to the Snapdragon 855 and is less than the Snapdragon 855+.

The chipset will come with Adreno 650 GPU with a clock speed of 587MHz. According to the leak, the Snapdragon 865 will offer up to 20 percent more CPU performance and the GPU performance will be lifted by 17 to 20 percent.

According to speculations, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 is also expected to be the first mobile chipset to support LPDDR5 RAM that offers better performance while consuming lower power compared to the LPDDR4x.

The company is likely to launch at least two variants of the Snapdragon 865. The high-end model will be a 5G SA (standalone) chipset with an integrated 5G modem. And, the standard chipset will have a 4G LTE model by default and a 5G modem can be attached to it with NSA setup.

Expected Smartphones With Snapdragon 865

Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Sony, and LG are expected to be the first set of smartphones to feature the all-new Qualcomm chipset. These smartphones are likely to launch in the Q1 of 2020.
