Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC Announced with On-Device AI: Will Power the Flagship Killers of 2024
Qualcomm recently unveiled a new chipset in the form of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC, marking the latest addition to its flagship series. This new chipset, built on a 4nm process, emerges as a cost-effective alternative to the high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, launched in October of the previous year.
It is positioned above the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the company's flagship chip from 2022. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 boasts hardware capabilities similar to Qualcomm's leading processor, including support for advanced generative AI models with up to 10 billion parameters.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC Features, Specs
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is scheduled to power smartphones from brands such as Honor, iQOO, Redmi, Realme, and Xiaomi. The first smartphone equipped with this chipset is expected to hit the market later this month, although specific details about the device remain undisclosed. We expect the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip to power the flagship killer smartphones of 2024.
Featuring an octa-core setup with a Prime core (Cortex-X4) clocked at 3.0GHz, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset is designed for high performance. It includes four performance cores running at 2.8GHz and three efficiency cores at 2.0GHz.
The chipset supports HDR gaming and real-time ray tracing in compatible games, thanks to its Adreno GPU. It can handle up to 24GB of LPDDR5x memory and uses UFS 4.0 storage solutions.
Advanced AI and Camera Capabilities
One of the standout features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is its on-device generative AI capabilities, supporting over 30 large language and vision models at launch. These include Gemini Nano, Llama 2, and Baichuan-7B.

The chipset enables devices to generate content from written, spoken, or image prompts and create images beyond the original frame using AI. Devices powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will boast image capturing capabilities of up to 200 megapixels and feature a triple 18-bit ISP setup.
The chipset's AI-based face detection and Snapdragon Low Light Vision (LLV) technology enhance photo and video quality, especially in low-light conditions. Qualcomm's latest chipset supports 4K and Quad-HD+ display resolutions at 60Hz and 144Hz, respectively.
Advanced Connectivity Options
It includes an ultra-low power always-sensing camera for quick facial unlocking and features the Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF system, supporting mmWave and Sub-6 5G networks. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset also excels in connectivity, with the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system enabling up to 5.8Gbps download speeds over Wi-Fi 7 networks.
It supports Bluetooth 5.4, Snapdragon Sound, Bluetooth LE audio, Auracast broadcast, and Qualcomm's aptX audio codecs, ensuring a comprehensive and high-quality wireless audio experience.
As technology continues to advance, Qualcomm remains at the forefront, delivering innovative chipsets like the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 that enhance smartphone performance and capabilities.
