Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Announced with Massive Gains in Performance and Power Efficiency
Qualcomm has unveiled its latest high-performance SoC, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. This new chip succeeds last year's 8s Gen 3 and maintains the architecture of its predecessor. It is built using TSMC's 4nm process technology. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 promises significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency.
Enhanced Performance and Efficiency
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 offers a substantial boost in various areas compared to its predecessor. CPU performance is enhanced by 31%, while GPU performance sees a remarkable increase of 49%. Additionally, AI capabilities have improved by 44%. Energy efficiency has also been increased by 39%, according to Qualcomm.

This SoC features a new sliced GPU architecture and includes the full suite of Snapdragon EliteGaming features. These include Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing with Global Illumination, Qualcomm Adaptive Performance Engine, and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0.
Advanced Camera and AI Features
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 retains an 18-bit Triple AI ISP, offering advanced camera capabilities. It supports real-time recognition and enhancement of over 250 objects with its 4K Limitless Segmentation feature. Night Vision 2.0 enables detailed video capture in low-light conditions at 4K resolution and 30 FPS.
The NPU supports on-device multimodal and multilingual generative AI, along with various leading LLMs and LVMs. This enhances the device's ability to handle complex AI tasks efficiently.
Specifications Overview
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (SM8735) includes one Kryo Prime CPU based on Arm Cortex-X4 running up to 3.2GHz, three Kryo Performance CPUs based on Arm Cortex-A720 up to 3.01GHz, two more Kryo Performance CPUs at up to 2.80GHz, and another pair at up to 2.02GHz, all built on ARMv9 architecture.
It incorporates a built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G modem-RF system supporting speeds up to 4.2Gbps downlink with Sub-6 GHz support in both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes.
Gaming and Audio Enhancements
The Adreno 825 GPU provides real-time Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing with Global Illumination, alongside features like Snapdragon Adaptive Game Configuration and Game Super Resolution 2.0 for an enhanced gaming experience.
Audio capabilities are supported by Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec and smart speaker amplifier, ensuring high-quality sound output with Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (THD+N) Playback at -108 dB.
Connectivity and Memory Support
The SoC supports Wi-Fi speeds up to Wi-Fi 7's peak speed of 5.8 Gbps, along with Bluetooth Core Specification version 6.0 featuring LE Audio support for superior connectivity options.
Memory support extends to LP-DDR5x memory up to a frequency of 4800 MHz with a maximum density of up to 24 GB, ensuring ample memory bandwidth for demanding applications.
Upcoming Device Integration
Several leading OEM manufacturers such as Redmi, iQOO, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Meizu are set to integrate the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 into their devices soon. iQOO has confirmed that the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro will be among the first devices powered by this chip, expected later this April in China.
Following which, the chip will likely show up on the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and Oppo K13 Pro. This announcement highlights Qualcomm's commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology that enhances device performance across various sectors including gaming, photography, connectivity, and AI processing capabilities.
