Redmi 8, 8A Receive MiUI 10 Update; Brings New Features, Android Security Patch

Xiaomi recently unveiled the Redmi 8 and the Redmi 8A in India. Both smartphones are equipped with a similar set of features like an HD display, a Snapdragon 439 chipset, and a 5,000 mAh battery.

A few days ago, the company revealed a hidden 'Sonic Dust Removal Feature' that cleans the speakers using sonic waves. Now, both the smartphones are getting a new firmware update. Details are as follows:

Xiaomi Redmi 8, Redmi 8A MIUI 10 Update

Xiaomi is rolling out an update with the MIUI 10.3.3.0PCPINXM build number for both Redmi 8 and the Redmi 8A. The update weighs around 49MB in size and is pushed out as an OTA in India. It is an incremental update and will take a while for the mass rollout to be complete. Alternatively, you can check the update manually as well in the Software Update section of the Settings tab.

The changelog reveals the addition of September 2019 Android security patch to both the devices. It also brings some new features for the App Vault. Following the update, you will have the ability to swipe down in order to view some extra shortcuts. It also improves system stability and enhances security.

Xiaomi Redmi 8, Redmi 8A Quick Specifications And Features

The Redmi 8 and the Redmi 8A offer a similar set of hardware which includes the processor (an octa-core Snapdragon 439 chipset). But there is a difference in the RAM and storage configurations.

While the Redmi 8 is available in 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage and 4GB RAM 64GB storage, the Redmi 8A comes with 2GB RAM+ 32GB storage and 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage configuration.

Both the smartphones offer an HD+ display (6.22-inches) with 720 x 120 pixels resolution, a waterdrop notch and the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. For optics, the Redmi 8 offers a dual-camera setup with a 12MP and a 2MP sensor.

The Redmi 8A comes with a single 12MP camera. Both Redmi 8 and the Redmi 8A have an 8MP camera upfront for selfies and video chats.

The Redmi 8 is launched at Rs. 7,999 and Rs. 8,999 for the 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage and 4GB RAM+ 64GB storage variant. The Redmi 8A is priced at Rs. 6,499 for the 2GB RAM+ 32GB storage and Rs. 6,999 for the 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage variant.
