Redmi A5 Launched in India With 120Hz Display, Android 15, and 32MP Camera; Starts at ₹6,499

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi A5 in India, aiming to expand its lineup in the budget smartphone category. The device will be available in two storage variants and will go on sale tomorrow, April 16, at 12 PM IST via Flipkart, Amazon, Mi.com, and across store outlets.

The base variant with 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage is priced at ₹6,499, while the 4GB + 128GB model is available for ₹7,499. Buyers can choose from three color options: Pondicherry Blue, Just Black, and Jaisalmer Gold.

Display and Build

The Redmi A5 features a 6.88-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1640 x 720 pixels. The panel supports a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The screen reaches a peak brightness of 600 nits and is certified by TÜV Rheinland for eye comfort.

In terms of physical build, the device weighs 193 grams and measures 8.26 mm in thickness. It includes an IP52 rating for resistance to dust and splashes.

Software and Performance

The phone runs Android 15 with a near-stock user interface. It is powered by the Unisoc T7250 octa-core processor and features a Mali-G57 GPU. The processor includes performance cores clocked at 1.8GHz and efficiency cores at 1.6GHz. The Redmi A5 supports memory extension and expandable storage up to 2TB via a dedicated microSD slot.

Camera Capabilities

On the back, the phone comes with a 32-megapixel dual-camera setup that supports various modes including portrait, night mode, ultra HD, time-lapse, and video. The front houses an 8-megapixel camera, and both cameras are capable of recording video at 1080p and 720p at 30 frames per second.

Battery and Charging

The Redmi A5 includes a 5,200mAh battery and supports 15W wired charging. A 15W charger is included in the box. The phone uses a USB Type-C port and does not support OTG functionality.

The Redmi A5 will be available on Flipkart, Amazon, Mi.com, and across store outlets starting April 16. Both variants—3GB + 64GB and 4GB + 128GB—will be offered during the first sale window.
