Reliance JioPhone terms and conditions are out: You might have to pay more
New JioPhone rules have been revealed.
While announcing the JioPhone, Reliance did mention that the 4G VoLTE feature phone will be effectively free of cost. The company stated that the buyers have to pay an amount of Rs. 1,500 that will be refunded while returning the phone after three years in order to avoid misuse.
However, there are some terms and conditions to use the JioPhone. As soon as the shipment of the device commenced on September 23, the company has updated the terms and conditions on the official website. If you wanted to get hold of the JioPhone as it is available for free of cost on returning it after three years, then you need to know these conditions as you might actually land up paying around Rs. 4,500 for the device.
JioPhone cost likely subsidized by 40%, costs Rs. 2,500 to assemble
We say so as the JioPhone users will have to recharge for Rs. 1,500 per year for three years in order to enjoy the facilities. If you fail to recharge, then the device will not be functional. In case, you fail to recharge for Rs. 1,500 in a year, then Reliance Jio has the right to ask you to return the device. And, you are liable to pay the penalty irrespective of the fact that you were prompted to do so by the company.
Reliance Jio to deliver 6 million units of JioPhone starting Sunday
Besides the mandatory recharge policy, Reliance Jio has revealed the return policy. If you return the device before your three-year time period, you will be penalized. In case you return the phone within one year of the date of issue of the device, you will have to Rs. 1,500 and the applicable GST or other taxes. If you happen to return it between 13 and 24 months from the date of issue, then you will have to pay Rs. 1,000 and the applicable GST or other taxes. In the time period after two years and before three years, the penalty will be Rs. 500 and GST or other taxes.
Notably, you need not pay any penalty on returning the JioPhone after three years of usage but the handset should be fully functional without any damages.
