Report: Google to Enable Remote Uninstallation of Android Apps
Google is preparing to introduce a significant update to the Play Store that will provide users with the ability to remotely uninstall Android apps from their connected devices. This new feature is a step forward from the existing capability that only allows for remote installations, enhancing user control over their app management across multiple devices.
New Feature in the Works: Uninstall Apps on Connected Devices
As mentioned in the official changelog for Google System Updates, Play Store v38.8 is set to include a "New feature to help you uninstall apps on connected devices." While initially planned for release with the v38.3 update, it was postponed for reasons undisclosed. Despite the delay, this anticipated functionality has sparked considerable excitement among Android enthusiasts.

An Early Glimpse into Remote App Uninstallation
App researcher AssembleDebug has demonstrated the upcoming uninstall feature before its global release. The process involves navigating to the Manage Apps & Devices section within the Play Store, where users can select the connected device they wish to manage. From there, users can choose individual or multiple apps to uninstall by selecting them and confirming the action.
How Will the Remote Uninstallation Feature Work?
Once Play Store v38.8 is widely available, users will find the new feature under the Manage tab. It simplifies app management by showing a list of installed apps on any connected device, whether it be a smartphone, wearable, TV, PC, or Android Auto device. The interface includes checkboxes for app selection and a trash icon for initiating the uninstallation process, with the added convenience of sorting apps by size for efficient space management.
Sorting by Size and Addressing Bugs
The new feature not only allows the removal of apps but also helps users sort them according to their size, making it easier to free up space on devices quickly. Although a bug was noted by the researcher that not all installed apps appeared in the list, this is expected to be resolved by Google through an update before the feature becomes globally accessible to all users.
The ability to remotely uninstall Android apps is a significant addition to Google's suite of app management tools. While the new feature is currently undergoing fine-tuning, its eventual rollout will be a welcome change for Android users seeking more convenience in managing apps across multiple devices.
