Report: Samsung's Mid-Range Exynos Chips to Come With AMD GPUs

Samsung's Exynos 2200 was the first chip from the South Korean giant that packed AMD's RDNA2-based GPU, and now, as per Revegnus (@Tech_Reve), known for credible tech leaks, Samsung intends to equip its upcoming mid-range chips, namely the Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480, with an AMD mRDNA-based GPU.

These processors are anticipated to be officially unveiled early next year, with speculations arising that they might find their way into Samsung's popular Galaxy A series, specifically the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A15.

Report: Samsung's Mid-Range Exynos Chips to Come With AMD GPUs

However, before you get too excited, Revegnus has advised against getting overly hyped about the graphics in these upcoming mid-range Exynos chips.

Firstly, this caution from Revegnus suggests that these mid-range chips won't match the graphics prowess of their high-end counterparts, such as the Exynos 2200 or the soon-to-be-released Exynos 2400. This implies that if you're looking for top-notch graphics performance, you might want to set your sights on a different device.

Secondly, there's a likelihood that these mid-range chips won't come equipped with fancy features like ray tracing. Ray tracing is a cutting-edge graphics technology that enhances the realism of visuals in games and applications, providing a more immersive experience.

Camera Quality Over Graphics

Apparently, Samsung is shifting its focus from improving the performance of its GPUs to improving the Image Signal Processors (ISPs) in its mid-range Exynos chips.

The ISP is a critical component that affects image quality, impacting everything from photography to video recording. By enhancing the ISP, Samsung aims to improve the camera quality and overall imaging capabilities of its mid-range devices.

Gaming Performance: A Potential Trade-Off

For gamers, the big question is how this shift in focus will impact the gaming performance of the Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480. With reportedly less powerful GPUs and potentially missing features, these mid-range chips might not deliver the gaming experience you desire.

It's important to remember, however, that the majority of smartphone users in the mid-range segment prioritize factors like camera performance, battery life, and overall user experience over bleeding-edge gaming capabilities.

Take this information with a grain of salt as we await official information from Samsung.
