Report: Three Major Brands Have Halted Foldable Phone Developments
Rumors circulating within the tech industry hint at unexpected challenges for the
once-promising foldable phone market. According to insights from Digital Chat Station, a reliable tipster, it appears that three prominent smartphone brands are either halting or significantly delaying their foldable phone projects.
A Closer Look
The tipster reveals that a globally recognized smartphone manufacturer, ranking among the top five globally, has entirely suspended its efforts in the development of foldable devices. Additionally, two other companies have opted to pause their projects involving flip-style foldable phones.

The specific reasons behind these project suspensions remain undisclosed, and the tipster has not disclosed the identities of the affected brands.
Current Landscape
As of now, the foldable smartphone market is predominantly led by Android manufacturers. Samsung, with the largest market share, is reportedly advancing its Z-series foldable phones, including a triple-folding model. Meanwhile, Huawei is rumored to be in the works on a triple-folding style phone. Oppo and Vivo, other major players, have released multiple iterations of their foldable devices.
However, recent reports suggest that Oppo and Vivo are reconsidering their involvement in the foldable market. Allegedly, a notable decline in their market share within this segment last year has prompted this decision. Despite these speculations, neither brand has issued an official statement, necessitating further reports for clarification.
OnePlus and Apple in the Foldable Fray
If these rumors prove accurate, the impact could extend to OnePlus, closely aligned with Oppo, relying on their expertise. OnePlus has introduced only one foldable device under its brand name, and any shift in Oppo's strategy might influence its foldable initiatives.
In a parallel development, Apple's foldable iPhone project is reportedly grappling with challenges, particularly concerning issues related to fragile screens. Despite the unique possibilities offered by foldable phones, their expensive nature and perceived fragility remain key concerns.
