Samsung Earns Title of Most Repair-Friendly Phone Brand in 2022
A recent study conducted by Electronics Hub has found that Samsung is the most repair-friendly smartphone brand of 2022, outperforming Apple by a significant margin.
The study used data from iFixit to evaluate the ease of repair for various smartphones based on factors such as average repair times and the difficulty of repair guides available online.
Samsung Tops Apple as Most Repair-Friendly Phone Brand in 2022
According to the study, the smartphones with the highest repairability score and shortest average repair time are the Motorola Moto G7, Galaxy A40, and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Moto G7 tops the list, followed by the Galaxy A40 with a repairability score of 42.9% and an average repair time of 32.6 minutes per fix. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra takes third place with a score of 33.3% and an average repair time of 48.1 minutes.
The Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max comes in fourth, with a repairability score of 30% and an average repair time of 63.2 minutes, significantly longer than the Galaxy S22 Ultra's average time.
In contrast, the most difficult smartphones to repair are the Google Pixel 7 and Galaxy Note 10. The Pixel 7 has an average home repair time of 60.3 minutes, while the Galaxy Note 10 averages 58.4 minutes. Both devices have repair instructions that are labeled "difficult to follow," earning them a rating of "100% hard repairs."
The study also looked at the repairability of smartphone brands based on their DIY repair guides. The top five brands are Asus, HTC, LG, Samsung, and Apple, with Samsung being among the easiest to repair.
On the other hand, the most difficult-to-repair smartphones in recent years were made by Sony, Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus, and Honor.
Samsung's newer phones, such as the 2023 Galaxy S23 series, show its dedication to repairability with features like battery pouches that make battery replacements easier. This change is likely to solidify Samsung's status as the most repairable smartphone manufacturer.
