Samsung Exynos 2500 Deca-Core 3nm Flagship Chipset Announced: Could Debut on Galaxy Z Flip 7

Samsung has quietly unveiled its Exynos 2500 Deca-Core SoC, a flagship chip. This new chip utilises a 3nm process technology, an upgrade from the previous 4nm LPP+ process. The Exynos 2500 features a tri-cluster CPU structure with one Arm Cortex-X5 core at 3.3 GHz for peak performance, five mid-sized cores including two Cortex-A725 cores at 2.74 GHz and three at 2.36 GHz for balanced processing, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8 GHz for efficiency.

The Exynos 2500's GPU, the Samsung Xclipse 950, is built on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture and includes hardware ray tracing technology to simulate real-world light movement for immersive visuals. It has been upgraded from 6WGP/4RB to 8WGP/8RB, enhancing ray traversal performance and supporting instance transform hardware acceleration. This results in a frame rate boost of up to 28% with ray tracing enabled.

Enhanced Neural Processing Unit

The Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in the Exynos 2500 can perform up to 59 trillion operations per second (TOPS), representing a significant improvement of 39% over its predecessor. It features two clusters with a total of 24K MAC capability, surpassing the previous model's performance of 17K MAC. Additionally, it offers enhanced vector engine efficiency for generative AI model acceleration, leading to a performance increase of up to 90% on MobileBERT.

Samsung's new SoC retains fan-out wafer-level packaging (FOWLP) similar to the Exynos 2400, which enhances power efficiency and heat dissipation while reducing chip thickness. It also includes a built-in GNSS7 block and supports advanced connectivity options such as Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7.

Camera and Display Capabilities

The Exynos 2500 supports up to a single-camera mode of up to 320MP or dual-camera configurations of up to 64MP+32MP at 30fps. For video capabilities, it allows up to 8K decoding at 60fps with formats like HEVC(H.265), VP9, AV1, and encoding at up to 8K at 30fps with similar formats. Display support extends up to resolutions of WQUXGA @120Hz or QHD+ @144Hz.

In terms of connectivity, the SoC offers robust options including support for UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X memory. It also provides comprehensive network capabilities with support for both sub-6GHz and mmWave bands in the realm of mobile networks.

Samsung has officially begun mass production of the Exynos 2500. While the company has yet to confirm which device will carry the new chip, industry speculation points to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 as its likely debut platform.
