Samsung is now rolling out the December security update for the Galaxy A5 (2017). Quite interestingly, the new update also comes with added features and new camera functions.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) starts receiving December security update

The latest Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) update comes at a size of 431MB and firmware version A520FXXU3BQLA. The update contains improvements and 66 fixes for Google's Android operating system and 10 fixes are from Samsung for its own interface and applications.

But these are the usual features that you see in a general update. However, what you don't normally see is a particular new feature being added in such updates. Well, as noted above, Samsung has added a number of new camera features for the Galaxy A5 (2017) and it kind of brings this device close to the 2018 models like the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) as far as camera functionality is concerned.

While Samsung has been on and off with the updates, it's always good to see that the company is still releasing software updates on existing A series devices without making people wait for the next major Android upgrade.

Having said that let's have a look at the new camera features in detail.

Firstly, the update brings a new Selfie focus mode for the front camera. Well, this mode is basically a lot similar to the Selective focus mode seen on Samsung's flagship phones like the Galaxy S8. This mode helps users to take a picture without tapping on the screen to focus on a subject. It also helps the user to blur the background automatically.

Secondly, the update also brings a color correction option, especially for skin tone. And finally, the update brings Stamp and AR-sticker or filters which users can add to their photos to create more funny effects.

Notably, Android OS of the device remains at version number 7.0 and the Samsung Experience interface also stays unchanged at version 8.1.

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) owners can check their smartphones to see if the update is available for them. They can go to the Settings page and click on the Software update tab. If the update is available they can download it manually from there. Users should also keep a close eye no their notifications tab as the news about the update generally appears there first.

As of now, it is not clear whether all regions are getting these features with the latest update or not. If you have do let us know in the comments section below.
