Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge Plus to receive Android Oreo?
T-Mobile and Samsung have agreed to support a new software update for 2015 Samsung Galaxy flagships.
Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphones that were launched in 2015 may finally receive the much awaited Android Oreo update in the coming months. According to a new report Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note5 will likely be receiving the Oreo update.
The details have been revealed via manufacturer development pages on T-Mobile's official website. The carrier's webpage further reads "T-Mobile and the device manufacturer have agreed to support a new software update," which is Oreo 8.0.
T-Mobile support pages also state: "Phase: Complete." Now what we can assume from this is that Samsung and T-Mobile may have finished testing the Android Oreo update for the above-mentioned devices and it's ready to be rolled-out.
Previously, the XML files in the framework-res of the leaked Oreo beta had revealed code-names of several Samsung devices and it further gave us a hint that the company was experimenting with Android Oreo on these devices. But at the time Samsung's flagship smartphones which include Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, and the Galaxy Note 5 were not mentioned in the list.
However, XDA Developers have noted that all these smartphones are powered by the Exynos 7420 system-on-chip and that they are powerful enough to run Android Oreo. Samsung customer care reps had earlier also confirmed the device(s) would be getting the update, and one of them had even gone on to say that the update would be released around February. Surprisingly this is the month and we are seeing reports about Oreo update for Galaxy S Series devices.
Meanwhile, the South Korean company hasn't yet announced anything officially in this regard. The company is yet to provide the list of devices due to receive the Android Oreo update. We are also speculating the case. Right now it's hard to tell whether Oreo will be rolled-out to all 2015 Samsung flagship variants or for T-Mobile variants only.
But with this news, things have become interesting. If Samsung starts the rollout of Android Oreo update to its 2015 flagship phones, the device owners will benefit a lot. We are hoping that Samsung rolls-out the Oreo update for all variants of its 2015 flagship phones for users across the globe.
