Samsung has been quite busy these past few weeks as the company has been rolling out updates for several of its smartphones. While it is not a major update, the South Korean handset maker has been pushing the latest January 2018 security update for most of its older flagships as well as other smartphones in its portfolio.

While Samsung is known to be on the slower side when it comes to updates the company is gradually rolling out the update to more devices. And now it looks like two more devices are receiving the January security update. The two handsets are Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Note 8.

The Galaxy Note 5 January 2018 security update has been released in several markets in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Some of the markets include United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Turkey, Nigeria, Morocco, Pakistan, Kenya and Saudi Arabia. As such, Samsung is now rolling out the update with firmware version N920CXXS4CRA1 for the Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920C).

Samsung's latest update brings fixes for five critical vulnerabilities in the Android operating system as well as patches for many low, moderate and high-risk vulnerabilities. It also includes patches for 13 Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items that the company discovered in its own software.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 update comes with a size of 707.5MB. While the changelog is quite small this device also gets the Android security patch for the month of January. The update provides fixes for 13 vulnerabilities found in Samsung's software and 6 Android-specific exploits.

The update seems to be hitting devices in France at the moment but Samsung should bring it to other markets in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Note 8 owners will be receiving the update over OTA. So it will take time before it reaches all the units. Notification should pop up on their handsets when the firmware becomes available in the respective markets. You can always check for the update manually by heading to Settings > About Device > Software Updates.

The update should be arriving for Indian users as well. But we might have to wait for some time. You could always let us know when you get the update.

Meanwhile, Samsung is said to be gearing up to release Oreo updates for several of its flagships in the coming months. Devices that are in line to get the update include Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy S7 duo and even Galaxy S6 as well.
