Samsung Galaxy S27 May Ditch Snapdragon Chip: Here's Why
Samsung could reconsider its chipset plans for the Galaxy S27 series if Qualcomm fails to address reported overheating issues with its next flagship processor. According to a report from 9To5 Google originally attributed to South Korean publication Seoul Economic Daily, Samsung has raised concerns about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and is considering its upcoming Exynos 2700 as an alternative.
The report claims that Samsung has informed Qualcomm about the alleged heat issue. The two companies are reportedly discussing a possible solution, with Samsung expected to decide based on whether Qualcomm can meet its performance and stability requirements.
If the issue is resolved, Samsung could continue with its original plan to use the Snapdragon processor. Otherwise, the company may have to consider the Exynos 2700, depending on its performance and readiness for mass production.
Neither Samsung nor Qualcomm have publicly confirmed the reported overheating concerns or a possible change in the Galaxy S27 series' chipset plans.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Series Could Use Exynos 2700 Chip

Samsung has a history of using both Snapdragon and Exynos processors across its flagship smartphone range. The choice of chipset has often varied by market, although the company has also used a single processor family across certain generations.
The reported concerns could once again put the spotlight on Samsung's chipset strategy. According to Seoul Economic Daily, Samsung is discussing the issue with Qualcomm this month. The report suggests that the company will stick with Snapdragon if Qualcomm can address the problem while meeting its requirements.
If not, the Exynos 2700 could become an alternative. However, the report does not confirm which Galaxy S27 models or markets might use either processor, so it is too early to conclude that Samsung will switch its entire flagship lineup to Exynos.
The reported development also does not establish that the Snapdragon chip has a widespread overheating problem. More information will be needed to determine whether the issue affects multiple devices or is related to particular testing conditions.
What Do We Know About Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6?
Qualcomm announced its latest flagship chipsets in September 2026. The top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is built on a 2nm manufacturing process and features two CPU cores with clock speeds of up to 5GHz.
Qualcomm claims the processor delivers a 13% improvement in CPU performance and a 44% boost in GPU performance compared with the previous-generation chip. The company has also highlighted improvements to AI processing and power efficiency.
Several devices have already been announced with the new chipset, including the Motorola Signature 27, which is also planned for the US market.
