Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will no longer get security updates
Two phones from the Galaxy S6 series are still there on the Samsung's list and will continue to receive monthly security updates; Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy S6 Active.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 edge, we have a bad news. The company has removed the smartphones from the list of devices eligible for security updates. Like most of the other Android phone makers, Samsung provides software support to its smartphones for at least a couple of years.
When it comes to security updates though, Samsung gives three years of support for all is flagships and some mid-range as well as entry-level handsets. Well, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are three years old as they were launched at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2015. This means, the smartphones will no longer receive the monthly security updates.
To recall, the Galaxy S6 sports a 5.1-inch display with a screen resolution of 1,440×2,560 pixels. It is powered by an Exynos 7420 octa-core 64-bit chipset, coupled with 3 GB of RAM and a Mali-T760 MP8 GPU. The smartphone offers 32GB/64GB/128GB inbuilt-storage depending on the variant.
On the imaging front, the Galaxy S6 flaunts 16MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5MP front camera on board. Powered by a 2,250mAh battery, the phone currently runs Android Nougat operating system.
The Galaxy S6 edge, on the other hand, has a 5.1-inch display with a screen resolution of 1,440×2,560 pixels. It is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor along with a Mali-T760 MP8 GPU. The smartphone offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB/ 64GB / 128GB inbuilt storage.
When it comes to optics, it flaunts 16MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5MP front camera. The smartphone is backed by a 2,600mAh battery and it runs Android Nougat.
It is worth mentioning that two phones from the Galaxy S6 series are still there on the Samsung's list and will continue to receive monthly security updates; Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy S6 Active. However, Samsung will drop support for these two devices as well by the end of this year.
