A couple of months ago, we came across another report that suggested the same.

Samsung has been working for quite a while on the much-awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update for some of its flagship phones. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have already received the beta version of the update and they are likely to be the first Samsung phones to get the Oreo treatment. The South Korean tech giant has also confirmed that the Galaxy S7 duo will be updated to Android Oreo. Well, now we have just been informed that three-year-old Samsung Galaxy S6 might get the taste of Oreo as well.

Samsung Galaxy S6 to get Android Oreo in February

According to Samsung's technical support, Galaxy S6's last major Android OS update could be Oreo. This information came to light after a Reddit user who spoke to him, shared screenshots. The company rep also says that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be upgraded to Android Oreo by February, likely around the same time the Galaxy S8/S8 Plus will also receive the update.

Having said all that, the news seems to be good to true, especially considering the fact that none of the newer Samsung phones have received the update. So we are kind of skeptical about the news. It is very unlikely for Android phone makers to support devices that are as old as three years. Google is the only the company which is known to keep their old models updated. So keeping everything in mind, we better wait until we get a confirmation from Samsung itself.

Samsung Galaxy A8+ First Impressions

In any case, there are hardly 15 days till February, so will soon get to know whether or not it was just a false alarm. If you recall, in November 2017, another Reddit user was also told by a Samsung representative that the Galaxy S6 would be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. He also posted a couple of screenshots which can be considered as evidence.

On the screenshots posted by him, all three representatives of Samsung are consistent with this information. So there is a slight chance that the smartphone gets the Oreo update. It goes without saying that if this information eventually turns out to be legit, no one would be happier than a Samsung Galaxy S6 owner.
