Samsung Galaxy X foldable smartphone is real and in the making
The confirmation comes from DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung's Mobile Division.
Samsung is rumored to have been working on a foldable smartphone since the past couple of years. Unofficially dubbed as Galaxy X, it has appeared in countless number of leaks so far. Despite all the talks, we are still not sure when exactly this device will be launched.
Samsung last year had said that it aims to release the Galaxy X foldable smartphone in 2018, assuring us about the existence of the device. DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung's Mobile Division, didn't reveal any specific timeline though. Now that the company has launched its flagship Galaxy S9 series, it will probably focus on the Galaxy X. At least, that's what it seems from the recent development.
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ were launched yesterday at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. As expected, reporters present at the event asked DJ Koh about the Galaxy X foldable smartphone. Well, what he revealed in an interview won't disappoint those waiting eagerly for the device.
Apparently Samsung is making progress on the Galaxy X and it won't be just a gimmick. These means, all these rumors we have been hearing so far are somewhat true.
"I need complete confidence that we're delivering the best user experience when we're launching a new category," Koh was quoted as saying. Of course, Koh didn't say when the company is going to release the Galaxy X, but he said that he would disclose more about the new product when the time is right.
When asked whether or not the company plans to launch the device this year, he pretended to not hear the question by saying, "Sometimes I do not listen. My ear is not so good". So we are hopeful that the South Korean tech giant will take us by surprise by launching the Galaxy X sometime later this year.
Earlier this month, a report coming from Russia claimed that Samsung will adopt a new naming scheme for the next-generation models. The report also revealed that the Galaxy S10 series could be announced with the moniker Samsung Galaxy X. However, from Koh had to say, we don't that is likely.
