Samsung is hosting an event in Delhi on October 14 where the company is likely to launch one or more new devices to leverage the festive season. The South Korean smartphone maker has not mentioned the name of the device that it will launch at the event, but it is highly expected to unveil the second generation of Gear smartwatch, the Gear S2, or the Galaxy Grand On smartphone in India.
Samsung's invite for the event reads, "The next level of innovation is here," which does not really hint at any specific product in particular. However, considering that the company has already made the Gear S2 smartwatch available in most of the major markets, we might see the long-due smart wearable finally coming to India. Moreover, the launch of the Gear S2 at this time around is likely considering that its arch rival Apple is also planning to bring its wearable to India ahead of Diwali in November.
It is also expected that the company will launch the much rumored mid range smartphone, the Galaxy Grand On, or the recently spotted low-range Galaxy J3 smartphone at the event to take on the recently announced budget and mid-range smartphones in India.
To recap on specs, the new Gear S2, including the Gear S2, the Gear S2 Classic and the Gear S2 3G feature 1.0GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, IP68 water-and-dust resistant certifications, and health-kit apps including heart-rate sensor, S Health Nike+Running. These run on Tizen OS, and have connectivity options like NFC, Bluetooth v4.1 and Wi-Fi. The first two run on 250 mAh battery, while the 3G variant has a bigger battery of 300mAh capacity. All the three variants feature SIM slot to work as standalone calling devices.
The Galaxy Grand On was recently spotted on TENNA certification, which revealed its specifications that include a 5.1-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of inbuilt memory, 8MP/5MP camera package, and Android 5.1 Lollipop.
