Samsung to incorporate Infinity Display hardware on its mid-rangers
Samsung has big plans for its mid-range phones.
Samsung has big plans for its mid-range smartphones, it seems. According to new reports from Korea, the company might put its Infinity Display which made its debut with the Galaxy S8 on its mid-range smartphones.
The move comes in line to differentiate the brand from other Chinese brands that are taking cues from Samsung on their home turf, and other markets as well. The transition to the Infinity display would give the company an upper hand against all the flat smartphones, and can also justify the pricing of its mid-rangers that is typically higher than the Chinese equivalents.
While there is no doubt that the South Korean company can use the Infinity Display for its mid-rangers, there's something else that can be the reason for this move. As the recent reports claim that Apple has cut the iPhone X orders by 40 percent for this quarter, leaving Samsung with an overcapacity of OLED panels.
Thus, Samsung can use those panels to differentiate its mid-rangers from the flat screened devices and justify the cost of the products compared to the dirt-cheap Chinese smartphones.
Besides, Samsung is also working on a social media service dubbed 'Uhssup,' reports suggest. While not much is known about the new service currently, it is expected to be location-based media network. Latest reports for Korea also suggest that the app will come pre-installed with the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
According to HeraldCorp, the new service will allow users to share their locations in real time and also comment on other people's locations. 'Uhssup' will also have messaging capabilities just like the one sen on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
