Samsung Is Rolling Out One UI 5.1 for Galaxy S22 and Z Fold 4

Samsung launched its Galaxy S23 series of smartphones recently this year. Though the series lacked significant innovation, it came pre-installed with Samsung custom UI skin on top of Android 13, One UI 5.1, that included several usability improvements and exciting new features. As per the latest reports by Canadian mobile network Fido, an update to the UI could arrive this month on Samsung's flagship devices.

One UI 5.1 Could Rollout in February

As per recent reports, Samsung has begun rolling out the One UI 5.1 update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 update is said to be currently available in Germany and the Netherlands, while the S22 update is only available in Germany. Earlier reports stated that the update would roll out on February 22, so users living in these regions are in for a pleasant surprise.

Those living in the Netherlands or Germany and using any of the above mentioned smartphones download the One UI 5.1 update by following these steps: click on the Settings app, select the Software Update option, and tap on Download and Install.

The update will bundle a February 2023 security patch and is 2GB in size. The report by Fido also states that the update could roll out to other markets as well.

While the S23 series will go on sale in India on February 23, handsets will be shipped as early as February 17 if purchased through the Samsung website. The One UI 5.1 update is also likely to roll out to other devices in the same week.

What's New in One UI 5.1?

The One UI 5.1 is Samsung's latest custom skin based on Android 13. Along with improvements brought by Google's latest version, One UI 5.1 introduces a slew of new features such as Shared Family Album in the Gallery app, the ability to save screenshots in a custom folder, a new battery widget with two layouts, live collaboration with Google Meet for Samsung's Notes app, an improved search in the stock Gallery app, and improved window management in Samsung DeX.

The update is currently being rolled out to Samsung's crème de la crème flagship devices of 2022. However, there is no word yet when this latest version of One UI will reach Samsung's A-series and M-series phones, which are the company's bread and butter. As is customary, flagship devices are the first to receive any new updates, followed by the rest of the lineup. We hope Samsung announces a release date for its midrange and budget devices.
