Samsung One UI 7 Introduces Now Bar, its New AI Companion: Could it Rival Apple’s Dynamic Island?
Samsung is currently testing its One UI 7, which is built on Android 15. The company has shared insights into the AI capabilities of this new interface. A standout feature is the Now Bar, which Samsung describes as a "defining element" of One UI 7. This feature offers a fresh take on the Dynamic Island concept by integrating frequently used apps and actions directly onto the lock screen.
The Now Bar is strategically placed at the bottom centre of the lock screen. It allows users to manage entertainment, track workouts, get directions, or communicate in different languages. Samsung claims it will offer "the most comprehensively insightful experiences ever" on Galaxy devices. For instance, when preparing for a trip, it suggests creating a folder with essential apps for easy access.

Enhanced User Experience with Now Bar
In addition to organising travel essentials, the Now Bar can notify users when it's time to head to the airport. This feature mirrors Google's long-standing functionality on Android devices. Furthermore, it promises to curate a travel playlist to enhance your journey's atmosphere, though details about which music app will be used remain unspecified.
Weather updates are easily accessible with a single swipe on the Now Bar. At day's end, it assists users in revisiting their day's highlights. This feature aims to streamline daily tasks and enhance user interaction with their device by offering timely information and entertainment options.
Focus on Privacy with Personal Data Engine
Apart from the Now Bar, Samsung has introduced its Personal Data Engine in One UI 7. This tool represents a significant advancement in privacy by ensuring cross-app personal data protection directly on the device. The data is stored securely using an encryption key managed by Knox Vault, which also protects biometric data.
The Personal Data Engine adds an extra layer of security through post-quantum cryptography. This ensures that personal information remains safe from potential future threats posed by quantum computing advancements. Overall, Samsung's One UI 7 aims to enhance user experience through innovative features like the Now Bar while prioritising security with advanced privacy measures such as the Personal Data Engine.
