Samsung One UI 9 Brings Easier iPhone Data Transfer and AirDrop Support

Samsung is making it easier for iPhone users to switch to Galaxy smartphones with new migration features introduced with One UI 9. The latest software update simplifies the transfer process while allowing users to move more personal data from an iPhone to a compatible Galaxy device.

The biggest change comes to Samsung Smart Switch, which no longer requires users switching from an iPhone to install an additional app on their iOS device when moving to a supported Galaxy foldable.

QR Code Makes iPhone-to-Galaxy Transfer Easier

The updated migration process uses a temporary local connection between the iPhone and Galaxy device.

When setting up a supported Galaxy smartphone, the phone displays a QR code. Users can scan it using the iPhone's built-in Camera app and follow the on-screen instructions to begin transferring their data.

The process does not rely on external cloud backups, potentially making the migration quicker and more straightforward.

Smart Switch Transfers More Data

Samsung has also expanded the types of information that can be transferred from iPhone to Galaxy.

Alongside photos, videos, messages, contacts and calendar entries, Smart Switch can now transfer passwords, digital passkeys, call history and active eSIM profiles. Accessibility preferences can also be carried over, helping users retain a more familiar experience after switching platforms.

Quick Share Works With AirDrop

Samsung is also reducing the barriers between Galaxy and iPhone users after the initial setup.

Devices running One UI 9 or One UI 8.5 can use Samsung's Quick Share to work with Apple's AirDrop network. This allows users to share photos, videos and documents between supported Galaxy and iPhone devices.

Good Lock Helps iPhone Users Adjust

Samsung's Good Lock customisation suite can further help users adapt to the Android interface.

The software provides options to customise home screen layouts, swipe gestures and colour themes. This gives new Galaxy users greater control over the interface and can make the transition from iOS feel more familiar.

Galaxy Foldables Get the Features First

The new migration capabilities are currently available on Samsung's latest foldable lineup, including the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8.

Samsung is expected to expand the features to additional devices as One UI 9 rolls out. The upcoming Galaxy S26 series is already testing the software, while devices such as the Galaxy A57 and Galaxy A16 5G are also testing the update.

The expanded migration tools could make switching from iPhone to Galaxy significantly less complicated, particularly for users concerned about transferring sensitive information and maintaining their existing digital setup.
