Samsung Rumored to Axe Exynos SoC Completely for Galaxy S24 Lineup

Samsung used to offer two versions of its flagship smartphones: one with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips for the United States, Canada, and China, and one with the company's own Exynos chips for the rest of the world. This year, Samsung shifted gears by releasing only its flagship Galaxy S23 series with an exclusive Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 "For Galaxy" SoC, and if the latest rumor is to be believed, Samsung may do the same with the Galaxy S24 lineup as well.

Samsung Rumored to Ditch Exynos For Galaxy S24 Lineup

According to a tweet from a tipster named Connor, the Galaxy S24 series will do away with the Exynos series entirely. SamMobile notes that the tipster's reliability is questionable at best, but if this rumor pans out, it will be the second year in a row that Samsung's Exynos chip has not been used in the company's flagship smartphones.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Could Be Employed in the Galaxy S24 Lineup

If Samsung does not use the Exynos chipset in its upcoming flagship lineup, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the most likely candidate.

A tipster named RGcloudS says that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC may use a 1-4-3 arrangement with a single Cortex X-4 CPU core operating at a whopping 3.70Ghz.

Another tipster by the name of Revegnus believes the forthcoming device will have a 1-5-2 design consisting of a 3.20GHz Cortex X-4 performance core, 3.0GHz Cortex-A720 performance cores, and 2.0GHz Cortex-A520 efficiency cores.

The tipster further claims that the processor will support LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 4.1 and that it would include the Adreno 750 GPU and the Snapdragon X75 5G modem.

Although both tipsters provide different specifications for this chipset, they both agree that the upcoming chip will be built on TSMC's 4nm process.

Samsung Reportedly Working on a New Exynos Chip

According to a report, Samsung is developing a new Exynos chipset based on ARM's Cortex CPU cores. The Exynos 2300 is the new chipset in question, and it has a 1+4+4 core configuration.

The report also states that the Exynos 2300 will continue to collaborate with AMD and will use the AMD RDNA 2 architecture for graphics.

However, because this high-end SoC isn't expected to be ready in time for next year's flagships, Samsung may be preparing it for inclusion in its S25 series, if the chipset launches at all.
