Samsung Tightens Phone Security with New Anti-Theft Features in One UI 7

Samsung has urged its UK users to activate and update the latest anti-theft features on their Galaxy devices. This initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at enhancing user security. The company is promoting these advanced privacy tools through various channels, including social media and significant marketing investments, to ensure widespread awareness.

The campaign will be visible in prominent locations such as Samsung's Piccadilly Lights and key tube and train stations across central London. It will also feature on online video platforms, connected TV, and broadcaster video-on-demand services. These efforts are aligned with the rollout of One UI 7, which introduces new security updates. Initially launched with the Galaxy S25 series in February, these updates are now expanding to a wider range of Galaxy smartphones throughout the year.

Enhanced Security Features with One UI 7

Samsung Galaxy users can now take advantage of new and improved protection measures, such as Identity Check, designed to safeguard against sophisticated theft scenarios. These features work automatically and intelligently to detect suspicious activity and protect users' personal data when it matters most.

Updated Theft Protection Features Include:

Theft Detection Lock: Employs machine learning to recognize theft-related motions, such as snatching, and instantly locks the device to prevent unauthorised access.

Offline Device Lock: Automatically secures the phone if it's disconnected from the network for an extended period, offering protection even when the device is offline.

Remote Lock: Allows users to remotely lock their stolen phone using their phone number and a quick verification step. This feature also helps users regain account control and access further recovery options.

New Anti-Robbery Features Introduced with One UI 7:

Identity Check: In unfamiliar locations, the 'Safe Places' feature requires biometric authentication for any changes to key security settings-helping protect users if their PIN has been compromised.

Security Delay: If an attempt is made to reset biometric credentials, a one-hour delay is triggered before changes take effect. This gives users crucial time to remotely lock their device using another Samsung device or PC.

These enhanced theft protection tools are now rolling out to earlier flagship devices, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, as well as the S23 and S22 series. Further device updates are scheduled for release throughout the year.
