Samsung trademarks Galaxy J7 Star and Galaxy J3 Star
Samsung is prepping to launch variants of the Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J3 later this year.
While we await the announcement of the flagship smartphones - Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, it looks like Samsung is all set to come up with new budget smartphones as well. We say so as the company appears to have trademarked two new names - Galaxy J7 Star and Galaxy J3 Star. It looks like these smartphones will be released sometime this year.
As per a report by GSMArena citing LetsGoDigital, the trademarks for the monikers Samsung Galaxy J7 Star and Galaxy J3 Star have been filed at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This makes us believe that these smartphones are confirmed to arrive later this year.
Notably, the Galaxy J7 Star and J3 Star are not the only budget smartphones those are expected to be launched this year. Besides these devices, there are claims that the Prime, Pro, Max, Ace and Nxt variants of the Galaxy J3 and Galaxy J7 lineups will also be announced later this year. Each of these variants will be different from the rest only in some aspects. Some models could be exclusive to select markets. These details will be revealed later by the company on announcing these smartphones.
Talking about the Galaxy J7 Star and Galaxy J3 Star, we can expect these two smartphones to be better than the others mentioned above. Eventually, these two devices could be announced with better specifications and carry a relatively higher price tag (though these will be affordable devices) than the rest in the lineup.
While the Galaxy J3 Star is expected to be the most entry-level smartphone in the J series, the Galaxy J7 Star will be a mid-range smartphone. Given that the latest Galaxy J7 device - the Galaxy J7 (2017) has a FHD display and an octa-core Exynos 7870 SoC, we can expect the upcoming one to have upgraded specifications. Also, the Galaxy J3 (2017) has a HD display and a 13MP camera making us believe that its successor might also come with entry-level specifications.
However, there is no word on the specifications of these smartphones for now. Given that the trademarks for the names of these smartphones have been registered by the South Korean tech giant, we can expect to get further information in the coming months as these could be announced by mid-2018. We say mid-2018 as that is the usual launch pattern followed by Samsung for the J series smartphones.
