Sharp Aquos R2 powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset launched
Sharp has launched a new smartphone called the Sharp Aquos R2 in Japan with a QHD+ LCD display that offers 100 Hz refresh rate with HDR 10 support.
Sharp, the brand that is known for displays has launched its flagship smartphone for the year of 2018 called the Sharp Aquos R2 in Japan. The phone has top of the line specifications with a unique design. The smartphone will be available in Premium Black, Platinum White, Aquamarine, Coral Pink and Rose Red colours. As of now, there are no details on either pricing or availability of the smartphone. Considering Sharp's previous smartphones, the Aquos R2 is likely to be limited to Japan.
Design
The Sharp Aquos has a unique design compared to a standard smartphone. Yes, it does has a glass sandwich design. However, the implementation is bit different which makes it a standout in the crowded smartphone market. The phone has a taller form factor with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a cutout for the selfie camera on the top, which looks similar to the Sharp Aquos R1. The phone also has a visible chin on the bottom, which houses the fingerprint sensor. The phone has a curvier design with rounded corners all around the smartphone.
Specifications
In terms of hardware, the Sharp Aquos R2 packs in a top of the line specs without any compromises. The device has a 6-inch QHD+ IGZO LCD display with 19:9 aspect ratio screen. The display supports 100 Hz refresh rate, which will be beneficiary gamers. Not only that, the display also supports HDR 10 with Dolby Atmos sound, which makes it one of the best smartphone to consume multimedia.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core SoC with 4 GB LPDDR4x RAM and 64 GB onboard storage. Additionally, the storage is user expandable up to 400 GB using a micro SD card. The smartphone runs on a custom version of Android 8 Oreo with custom UI, which is far away from the stock Android UI.
Cameras
The phone has a dual primary camera setup stacked up vertically. The dual camera setup consists of a 22.6 MP primary sensor and a 16.3 MP secondary sensor, which is a wide-angle lens, which will help to capture wider photos. The smartphone also has a 16.3 MP front-facing camera. The main camera can record native 4K videos, whereas the secondary camera is limited to 1080p.
The Sharp Aquos is also IP X5/X6/X8 certified, which will make this device water and dust resistant. The phone has a 3130 mAh Li-ion sealed battery with Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0 capability. However, the phone misses out on wireless charging.
