Smartron has started pushing out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to its srt.phone. The homegrown manufacturer took to Twitter to announce that the update is available for download starting today. Details are scarce at the moment, and we don't know if it is an over-the-air (OTA) update. The size of the update is unknown as well.

Most probably, Android 8.0 Oreo for Smartron srt.phone is being rolled out via OTA. This means, the update may take a while to reach all the devices. If you are one of those impatient kinds, you can also check for the update manually by going to your phone's Settings>About Phone> System Updates.

Since it is a major software update, users should make sure that their device has sufficient charge and space before initiating the installation process. It is recommended to use an Wi-Fi network for the installation process to avoid additional data usage charges.

If you own a Smartron srt.phone, with the arrival of Android Oreo, several new features will be added to your phone. You will be able to enjoy some Android Oreo exclusive features like Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Notification channel, and more.

Do note that srt.phone is one of the very few smartphones under Rs. 10,000 to run Android Oreo. While the smartphone was launched last year at Rs. 12,999 (32GB variant), it now retails at Rs. 7,500 on Flipkart.

To recall, the srt.phone is fitted with a 5.5-inch FHD display with a screen resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels. Under the hood, it is powered by a Snapdragon 652 processor teamed up with 4GB RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The smartphone has two native storage variants; one with 32GB and another with 64GB.

Talking about the optics part, the srt.phone is equipped with a 13MP rear-facing primary camera with PDAF, f/2.0 aperture and LED flash and there is a 5MP selfie camera at the front with wide-angle lens.

Exclusive: Smartron to launch four products in January

To keep the lights on, the smartphone packs a 3,000mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 2.0 technology. Since the back cover is removable, the battery can also be removed. When it comes to connectivity, the device supports connectivity options such as 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and NFC. The dual SIM smartphone also features a USB Type-C port for charging.
