Sony Announces Launch Event for Its Upcoming Xperia Smartphone

Sony has announced a launch event for its upcoming Xperia smartphone via a teaser on Twitter.

The teaser trailer only mentions "Xperia New Product Announcement" along with the date and time for the event. The event is scheduled for May 11, 13:00 Japan Time or 6:00 CEST. The launch event can be watched on the Sony Xperia Youtube channel.

While not much information has been revealed about the upcoming Sony Xperia smartphone, the company has teased that the smartphone would have a "Next-gen Sensor", and "Next-gen Imaging", and that a "Next ONE is coming".

Earlier reports have hinted that the Xperia 1 V and the Xperia 10 V are in the pipeline, with renders of both smartphones leaking only earlier this year. So, it's safe to assume that either or both smartphones will be launched at the event.

Sony Xperia 1 V to Launch at the Event?

As per the leaked renders, the Xperia 1V is expected to come with a triple camera setup on the back and have a similar design to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 IV.

The Xperia 1 V will likely sport a headphone jack, a camera shutter button, and a volume rocker on one edge. At the bottom, it is said to have a central USB-C port with a SIM tray.

Last year when Qualcomm introduced its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, it indicated that Sony's upcoming Xperia device would also be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. So it's likely the upcoming smartphone will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 16GB of RAM.

Sony Xperia 10 V Also to Launch at the Event?

As per the renders of the Sony Xperia 10 V, the device will have a 21:9 wide display with bezels around it. The front camera is shown to be on the top bezel near the earpiece.

The Xperia 10 V is expected to feature the same design as its predecessor, the Xperia 10 IV. It houses triple rear cameras and a flash similar to the Xperia 10 IV.

The power button is said to have the fingerprint scanner embedded into it, with the volume rocker above it. The speaker is said to be at the bottom bezel.

The Xperia 10 V will also have a 3.5mm audio jack at the top with a secondary microphone. The primary microphone is at the bottom along with the USB Type-C port.

While these specifications are only approximate based on the leaked renders, we can only know the exact specifications at the launch of these smartphones. Until then, watch this space for more.
