Sony discontinues 'my Xperia' remote tracking service for its smartphones
Several Xperia smartphone users who tried accessing 'my Xperia' service have been redirected to Google's Find My Device site.
Sony Xperia smartphone users might not be able to effectively track their devices as easily as before. Well, Japanese consumer tech giant Sony Mobile has now confirmed that it has discontinued the 'my Xperia' remote tracking service for its users. While the company hasn't made any formal announcements, several Xperia smartphone users who tried accessing the service were instead redirected to Google's Find My Device site.

While users were concerned about what was happening and why the service was not operational, Sony confirmed that the service had been stopped over Sony Mobile Talk Forums. The company basically gave a statement saying, "As of January 17, 2018, the my Xperia web service has also been discontinued and you will now be redirected to the Find My Device web service instead."
As for the main reason why Sony has gone forward with its decision and pulled the plug from 'my Xperia' service it might be because of the great similarity it has with Google's Find My Device feature. Both 'my Xperia' and Google's Find My Device services allowed users to remotely lock and wipe the data clean from Xperia devices.
So it might not be a big surprise to see Sony closing its service for good. Meanwhile, Sony Mobile had launched its 'my Xperia' location tracking service way back in 2013, but a lot of developments have happened in the tech space since then.
In any case, if you own a Sony Xperia handset and if you try to access 'my Xperia' feature you will be automatically redirected to Google's Find My Device site as an alternative source. Google has also rolled out a native find your phone app for users too. The app can locate your phone within a certain distance, it also lets you ring your phone, wipe your phone and even show a message. The app is great because you can make a good attempt to find the phone. Worst case, you can wipe it if you can't.
